At the East Preston Festival procession, it was a fun surprise to be driven by Darren Vandeweg, of DK’s Garage, as part of the Village Carnival procession. He entertainingly gave a master class in car restoration.
Our oldest car is a long-lasting pink Smart car, almost comical when I am in the driving seat, serviced and tested regularly and with great reliability at Hares, the successors to Sussex Cars.
The theme this year was musicals: from a Mary Poppins scarecrow to a Greatest Showman ringmaster, the theme was creatively adhered to.
Janine Nicholson chairs the organising committee, all of whom should be congratulated for the interesting and varied programme of events and entertainment this year. Record numbers turned out for the festival, encouraged by the 'Sunny Worthing' weather.
We remembered the late legendary Doug Medhurst, one of her predecessors. His legacy continues in the festival's devotion to bringing the entire community together to have fun while fundraising for local good causes.
The festival achieves this in bucket loads: it brings people together and holds onto the fabric of a village community, something to cherish and protect.
