I am pleased to join over 100 MPs backing the #BuyBritishButton campaign in writing to major Supermarkets across the country asking them to create a ‘Buy British’ section on their website stores.
The ‘Buy British’ tab would collate produce from across the UK so customers have “greater power in their choices”, enabling them to support the nation’s farmers ‘quickly and easily’.
Change could be achieved ‘by the click of a mouse’, with many shops already labelling British products, therefore the online change is simply bringing the produce to the fore in a 'one-stop online shop' for the public to better identify homegrown produce.
The open letter has now been sent to Asda, Aldi, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Co-Op, Ocado and Waitrose.
From Slakes Gin to the many producers of Sussex Wine, and the wealth of producers and vendors from Worthing and Arun, local communities have a deep desire to be able to buy local and support our regional economy.
We all want to know more about where our food is from and farmers agree that the best way to support them is to #BuyBritish.
This is good for consumers, producers and the environment!
