Earlier this month, I was pleased to welcome the then-Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP, to Worthing to see the exciting regeneration projects happening with support from the Government.
Alongside Worthing Borough Council deputy leader, Cllr Kevin Jenkins, we visited ongoing regeneration projects at Teville Gate and Union Place, during a walking tour of the town centre and promenade.
The former Secretary of State was able to see that Worthing Borough Council uses all possible resources in practical and effective ways to make the town a good place to live, to work and to visit.
Worthing’s creative partnerships go beyond the cultural sectors. The Secretary of State could see how the Council plans to regenerate the central quarters to combine a broad range of arts with revived shopping and a range of homes.
The regeneration areas at Union Place, the gasworks, the Health Hub by the Town Hall and the great prospects for Teville Gate at the Railway Approach – they provide a new heart for Worthing. Similar projects will transform community centres across Arun.
We look forward to welcoming the new Secretary of State, Michael Gove MP, to see the progress being made across Worthing and Arun and hope he will be reassured that when we say we will do something for the benefit of the community, it will happen.
