I was pleased to join L'Orรฉal Groupe , Women's Aid and the Suzy Lamplugh Trust today to mark the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and help raise awareness and prevent Violence Against Women and Girls
A recent survey of women revealed that 80% of women said they had experienced street harassment in public spaces, making it the number one issue facing women. Furthermore, 86% of the people who have witnessed street harassment say there is a lack of training on how to intervene.
That is why I am proud to support the 'Stand Up' dedicated training programme to help people safely intervene if they witness street harassment and to better understand the "five D's":
1. ๐๐ถ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ the perpetrator
2. ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ๐๐ฒ by asking some help
3. ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ the harassment
4. ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ by speaking up
5. ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐ by comforting
The training is available free online and takes just 10 minutes.
I encourage all to take the brief time to learn how to better recognise and stand up to street harassment.
