The alcohol license application for the Southern Goring Gap by Goring Gap Ltd. has been rejected.
Residents in Ferring, Kingston and Goring are represented by me. It is not NIMBYism to oppose the alcohol application for the strip of land stretching the length of the Goring Gap and seafront.
It is environmentally right to ask for the Southern Goring Gap to remain an unlit natural dark skies and quiet days gap between our villages and communities. I lodged my complaints via the official channels as a local resident and as a representative for Worthing West constituents.
At Wednesday's License Committee in Worthing, I spoke for everyone except the promoter.
The license had to meet four criteria. In my view, it failed each of them. No sensible person would want to bring the commercial provision of alcohol into a natural greensward or in the cabbage patch area of the Southern Goring Gap.
Cllr Russ Cochran has given a sensible overview of the decision on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cllrrusscochran/posts/911358230996475
Residents will share in relief at this further step in rejecting the flagrant attempt to shoehorn in houses on the Goring Gap.
The application for a Certificate of Lawful Development on the same location was refused last week. The application to put a 40ft shipping container on the site has also been refused.
Persimmon will be taking note.
