I was immensely pleased to join a walking tour visiting local sites where blue plaques have been installed to commemorate notable people, buildings or events in Worthing's history.
We saw plaques to Jane Austen, William Hudson (founder of the RSPB) and Carl Seebold, the Swiss impresario who built the Dome cinema.
The walking tour was led expertly by the ever-admirable Susan Belton, Chair of The Worthing Society.
The Worthing Society, originally the Worthing Civic Society (founded in 1973), works hard to conserve and preserve the architectural amenities and heritage of Worthing and the surrounding area.
Our built heritage and green infrastructure form an irreplaceable preservation of our history and, therefore, a legacy to future generations. The work of the volunteer conservationist has never been more needed.
