It was a privilege to be present at the opening of Worthing's Field of Remembrance this morning alongside veterans, members of the armed forces and representatives of the Council.
Remembrance Services hold significant importance for our town and our communities. It gives us the opportunity to listen to the stories of the glory, bravery and sacrifices of those who fought for our freedoms.
The presence of veterans, serving officers, cadets and other youth organisations in full uniform during this time reflects their commitment, respect and the traditions that have shaped our society.
It’s through the reverence and respect with which we treat this time of year that we can understand and recognise the importance of our society's values, our freedom of democracy and of our human rights.
Each memory matters. Each service is important. Each year, I contribute a dedication to the unknown individuals from Worthing and Arun whose service may have been forgotten or overlooked.
I ask communities and constituents: who will you be thinking about on this sombre week?
Who will you remember as our nation falls silent at 11am on Remembrance Day?
