I was pleased to meet with Mary Meadows, Chair of Residents Association High Salvington, to visit the Nancy Price Sanctuary, off Honeysuckle Lane in High Salvington.
A 60-acre plot of land in the sanctuary was the subject of a purchase application by a neighbouring property. The council gave due consideration, as it should with any fair application, and put it to consultation within the local community.
The HSRA submitted strong objections to the council, in which serious concerns were also expressed about the potential for this intended sale to set a very unwelcome precedent. I shared these concerns and made the views of residents and community members abundantly clear to the council.
The application was subsequently withdrawn.
Mary has been a strong voice in the community for many years. We applaud the success in ensuring the voice of the local community was heard.
I encourage local community members to make use of their treasured green spaces. Many are havens for wildlife and their benefit for nature is matched by their benefit for our mental and physical health.
