It was a pleasure to welcome students from Worthing College with Matthew Crawley for a tour of the Palace of Westminster and to learn about the impressive history of our Parliament.
Matt has engaged successive generations in history and politics. We admire his work to inspire an interest and aspiration in public service and political affairs.
Three in their group have had work experience with my office team in recent months. Another has helpfully moved on to a permanent role after being an intern.
Over the years, many people who were at college locally have gone on to serve constituents with dedication and skill as members of my caring team.
We had an enjoyable Q&A session with many challenging and intriguing questions posed.
We discussed the purposes of politics: to reduce avoidable disadvantage, distress and handicap while trying to help increase well-being, prosperity and welfare.
In time I expect one or more of the Worthing College students to be elected to the House of Commons or to work here as a leading journalist or to join the public service supporting Parliament. I wish them all well with their academic and professional pursuits.
