Constituents continue to be concerned about the effect new parking restrictions at the Tesco Extra Durrington will have on Durrington Community Centre and its users. I am pleased to share this update.
In recent days I have been in close contact with representatives of Tesco alongside hardworking local Councillors and the team at Durrington Community Centre.
We are already aware of adverse impacts on the centre with meetings being rearranged for alternative locations. This is wrong and could have been avoided with necessary communication ahead of any new restrictions being implemented.
I wrote to the Chief Executive of Tesco to bring attention to this important issue and ask that they assist in work to ensure that constituents have access to important services which are a lifeline for many local residents.
The following is the reassurance I have received from the Community Engagement team at Tesco:
"𝙄𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢, 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚.

I am in the process of arranging a meeting between senior representatives of Tesco with the leadership team of Durrington Community Centre on-site to witness the immense benefits of the centre and the pressure and anxiety these restrictions have brought.
Local residents and community members can have confidence that I will continue to be engaged with this important concern and continue to seek a resolution that is in the best interests of the Community Centre and its users.
