Losing your sight can have a massive impact on your life. I share the belief that everyone should have access to support when they need it. Work to improve the wider world around us and adapting it to improve accessibility can have benefits for all.
I was pleased to meet with the Thomas Pocklington Trust in Parliament to discuss their work to support blind and partially sighted people and how we can work together to make the lives of blind and partially sighted people easier through better accessibility in various aspects.
Thomas Pocklington Trust is a charity supporting people with sight loss, and together with our Sight Loss Councils, we campaign and influence on making environments safer, and to make the lives of blind and partially sighted people easier through better accessibility in various aspects.
I recall working closely with organisations, including the TPT, to encourage supermarkets to make priority online shopping slots available to people with sight loss during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some with sight loss faced difficulty in accessing food, unable to easily handle extreme changes to the physical environment in shops, and had no local support network to help them.
Together we have and can make a positive difference to the lives of people with sight loss.
