Promotion Chances for the Rebels
Worthing FC finished a fantastic third in the Vanarama National League [South] after winning 4-2 at home to Weston-super-Mare on Saturday. I was pleased to be there to witness the game.
This third-place finish means the club will now play-off for the chance of promotion to the National League which brings more exciting opportunities for playing, investment and recognition on the national stage. Worthing will benefit.
It was an exciting match - Worthing came back from one down to lead 2-1 before Weston-Super-Mare scored their second, all before half time. A free kick in 39th and a converted corner in the 65th brought Worthing to 4-2.
The club will now compete in the play-off semi-finals this coming Sunday. We wish them success.
George Dowell MBE has helped make possible the progress of the club for which he played. The national honour was for his efforts for Association Football and for Disability Awareness. We welcome the new 3G pitch, the dedicated Sports Bar and Café, and the vast improvements to the Woodside Road grounds, together with more exciting plans confirmed yesterday (https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/.../worthing-fc-promises...)
Through the COVID-19 pandemic, my team and I rallied on their behalf to have their league achievements recognised and receive the promotion they deserved in spite of the seasons being halted. In 2022 that was made possible and the team went on to finish 4th in their debut year. This year they have placed even higher.
The Rebels are a good community team with the skill to put up a good fight at a national level. We back them in their fight for promotion.
