Today was Srebrenica Memorial Day, a reminder of the post-war massacre of Bosniak Muslims under the eyes of an ineffective European protection force.
I attended the National Srebrenica Memorial Day Ceremony in Lancaster House, hosted by Remembering Srebrenica.
Ten of thousands of Muslim Bosniak women and children were displaced and abused; six to seven thousand men and boys were massacred.
We are witnesses now to the horrors in Ukraine.
Let us continue to work together to reduce the risks of similar hatred leading to inhuman actions by bad leaders and compliant followers.
Remembering and commemorating these horrors reinforces the common understanding that such atrocities have no place in our society.
Instead, we must endeavour to learn, to live, and to love. Importantly, we must not waiver in defence of democracy, of peace and of freedom.
