Monday marked the beginning of #ParliamentWeek, an annual event spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how we can all be involved in our democracy.
My Parliament Week kicked off with visits to local schools and colleges.
Junior pupils and senior students at Our Lady of Sion School considered the purposes of politics during an assembly on Monday. One consideration is the avoidance of useless wars, across frontiers and within states as civil wars.
We also discussed politics as a means to finding solutions, and democracy as a system of accepting defeat, not guaranteeing victory, in working towards a common goal of prosperity and peace.
We can share in confidence that our next generation has a passion for doing good, for being involved and for making a change.
