On Monday, I joined with Sonia McColl OBE and leading members of the Park Homes Owners JUSTICE Campaign to present a petition to the Prime Minister with a blunt and simple call for action to end the disgraceful 10% commission being levied on sales of Park Homes by initial developers of the site.
This comes almost a year after a similar petition was presented at Downing Street by Park Home residents.
The arbitrary 10% exit fee on sale taken by the site owners presents no defined service whatsoever. It is conspicuously comparable to the 1% exit fees in retirement housing, which prompted an Office of Fair Trading investigation and subsequently ruled illegal.
I got involved because a local bad park home provider got bought out by an even worse one.
No one can justify the current situation. Everyone knows that it is wrong.
Ministers must realise that this really matters not only to those who are, have been or will be victims of this disgraceful continual act of fraud, but to the entire nation. Parliament must be seen to not allow something that is clearly wrong to continue.
Following Downing Street, I chaired a meeting in the Palace of Westminster in which we welcomed an impressive number of MPs including former Ministers and senior parliamentarians.
The presentation of the petition was covered by ITV News Itv Meridian, viewable here: https://www.itv.com/.../park-home-owners-call-for-end-to...
I spoke twice on BBC Radio Solent about the continued injustice faced by Park Home residents in West Sussex and across the UK. You can listen online, here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0gb26w7
We applaud the work of Sonia McColl OBE, founder of the Park Homes Owners Justice Campaign, who led the demonstration. We can also thank Leasehold Knowledge Partnership who continue to be stalwart campaigners to bring justice to the overlooked in our leasehold and commonhold market.
