#IslamophobiaAwarenessMonth is recognised annually every November. It aims to showcase the positive contributions of Muslims as well as raise awareness of Islamophobia in society.
Recent statistics show a worrying rise in religious intolerance in the UK with a 9% increase in religious hate crime and 39% of all religious hate crimes targeting Muslims.
I was proud to join colleagues from across the house at a recent event in Parliament to mark Islamophobia Awareness Month.
We were joined by leading campaigners from The Muslim Council of Britain, Muslim Women's Network UK, Amnesty International UK, Human Rights Watch and others to discuss concerns about rising Islamophobia in Britain and across the world, the impact it has on British Muslims and what we can do to stamp out this toxic hatred from becoming standard within our communities.
