My team and I have given time and effort to helping people evacuate from Afghanistan including discussing cases with the Minister.
West Sussex County Council, with district and borough partners, have been actively engaged with the existing Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP). The ARAP scheme offers relocation or other assistance to current and former locally employed staff who worked alongside British forces.
Families have already been resettled in West Sussex under the ARAP scheme, with more arriving.
We can give them a warm welcome and a safe home.
With colleagues in Parliament, I have continued to press for the need for continued efforts to evacuate and rehome vulnerable families from Afghanistan.
Many have come with connections to communities here in Worthing and Arun. We continue to work hard in support of them.
Minister Victoria Atkins, overseeing Operation Warm Welcome, was receptive and supportive when recently discussing particular urgent local cases as well as broader concerns. I am grateful.
Let us ensure they are welcome, brought into and cared for within our communities.
