Anyone can be a victim of fraud, those who are uncomfortable or unconfident with modern digital tech can be most vulnerable.
I am grateful for the support of Sussex Police in raising awareness and tackling digital fraud in Worthing and Arun.
Having supported victims of fraud locally, I recognise that many are embarrassed about asking for help. As methods of fraud become more sophisticated, it is important that we recognise that fraud can happen to anyone and therefore we should not be embarrassed to ask for help.
By being more aware of potential scammers, we can better prevent similar incidents of fraud from happening in the future.
We welcome the news that the number of fraud and computer misuse incidents across Sussex has fallen by nearly 11 per cent in the last year.
I also welcome the new ‘Stop! Think Fraud’ campaign will build on the government's progress in raising public awareness of fraud safety.
