MPs from across the house backed an important amendment to the Victims and Prisoners Bill to speed up compensation for victims of the NHS infected blood scandal.
The infected blood inquiry had completed its findings on compensation. In special reports, ministers were asked to get on with the arrangements.
The vote last night was for government policy now, rather than at a vague future time. I do not class my vote as rebellion nor the vote passing as a loss for the Government. It was a positive act in support of what should be done sooner rather than later.
I am glad the majority voting have agreed with me.
For over 30 years I have worked for the day when the financial burdens on the affected and the afflicted are recognised. Soon we will have the full analysis of what went wrong and why.
Dame Diana Johnson, with my persistent active support, has led the Commons fight for justice. This amendment is a considerable step forward in the Parliamentary campaign.
