It was a pleasure to attend the tenth anniversary of the St Oscar Romero shrine at St George’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Southwark.
During the beautifully sung liturgy and prayers, students representing St Oscar Romero Catholic School, and senior staff, joined the procession with Archbishop James Wilson.
I was deeply proud to see them there.
Julian Filochowski from the Romero Trust spoke passionately and eloquently about the eternal legacy of Oscar Romero. We both shared our memories with the students of meeting Oscar Romero at a service in El Salvador before he was tragically assassinated.
Below is a quote that represents the spirit of Oscar Romero:
"Peace is not the product of terror or fear; peace is not the silence of cemeteries;
peace is not the silent result of violent repression.
Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all, to the good of all."
