I met with Sally McDonald and Cllr Russ Cochran outside of the Pavillion Theatre to look at the urgent need for better accessible and disabled parking and drop-off facilities.
It is clear that the current offering is not good enough. One space is not sufficient for the many patrons who visit the theatre and pier.
Care homes and accessible groups are dissuaded from visiting, meaning some of our most vulnerable community members are left unable to visit the theatre and enjoy the fantastic cultural offerings the Pavillion Theatre provides.
Sally is actively involved in the Worthing Musical Theatre Company who recently completed a commendable production of My Fair Lady. They understand the needs of patrons and performers alike. Being forced to walk, in effect, a mile round-journey for parking is not accessible nor fair.
We know that there are also concerns about the reduced capacity at Montague Place.
I will actively work alongside the community to call for better accessible and disabled parking provisions across Worthing town centre.
We are also aware that there are fewer and fewer disabled-accessible taxis in Worthing. I believe every taxi should be accessible for all, no matter the cost.
I encourage the Worthing Herald to get involved in making the case for better accessibility in Worthing.
