I support the sensible aim for every young person to have access to affordable, good quality, safe and secure Housing. Government intervention can only facilitate some of what is necessary to achieve this aim.
Last week, I met with YMCA England & Wales to talk about their ambitious plans to build 100% affordable accommodation to help meet the need for housing across the country and how we can better work with our voluntary and charitable sectors to increase housing stock across the country.
We agree that Homes England should undertake a review of its application processes, increasing its flexibility around grant rates and offering higher grant rates for 100% affordable accommodation projects.
The YMCA is the oldest and largest youth charity in the world, set up in England in 1844. We applaud their work in creating supportive environments where young people can belong, contribute and thrive.
Together we can give the next generation a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.
